Why does the liberal media on TV and newspapers
ignore this?
Seems that anything contrary to their viewpoint
that individual decisions are bad and big government
has to be in charge of everything, gets ignored.

A woman with a concealed handgun stopped a mass shooting this week after
a man attacked a graduation party in Charleston, West Virginia.

"Police said a woman who was lawfully carrying a pistol shot and killed
a man who began shooting at a crowd of people Wednesday night in
Charleston," location Fox 11 reported about the incident. "Dennis Butler
was killed after allegedly shooting at dozens of people attending a
graduation party Wednesday near the Vista View Apartment complex. No
injuries were reported from those at the party. Investigators said
Butler was warned about speeding in the area with children present
before he left. He later returned with an AR-15-style firearm and began
firing into the crowd before he was shot and killed."

Police described the woman as "running toward the threat," saving lives.

The story comes as Democrats in Washington D.C. seek to curtail self
defense rights for law abiding citizens. President Biden is leading the
charge.

Man dies after opening fire at apartment party in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston police say a man who died after firing at
party goers at an apartment complex Wednesday night was known to law
enforcement.

Tyke Hunt
Charleston Police Chief Tyke Hunt said Dennis Butler, 37, is a convicted
felon and that’s he’s had several run ins with him before.

“As a young police officer, I was a rookie and had about a year on, one
of the most knocked-down dragged out fights I had was with Mr. Butler
and he had a firearm on him at that time in 2006,” Hunt said on
Thursday’s MetroNews “Talkline.”

Butler was killed after he pulled an AR-15 style rifle at a group of
people attending a birthday/graduation party at the Vista View
Apartments located along 1300 Renaissance Circle.

A woman at the party drew a pistol and shot Butler at around 10:45 p.m.
No one else was hurt.

Hunt said it’s too early to tell if it was a case of self-defense, but
no charges have been filed at this time.

“It looks like the person who fired upon Mr. Butler does not have any
reason to prohibit them from carrying a firearm lawfully,” he said.

Butler was approached earlier in the evening about speeding in the
apartment complex while children were playing. Hunt said Butler then
left the complex in a vehicle and returned a short time later when the
shooting occurred.

“He returned with a firearm, an AR style rifle, and fired in the
direction of the crowd,” he said.

It’s unknown if there was intent of where to shoot, Hunt said.

“We are still investigating the direction of the firearm and where the
rounds went, all the trajectory, and pulling video from that,” he said.

The investigation has been turned over to the Kanawha County
Prosecutor’s Office for review.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Charleston police continue investigating a
shooting at a graduation-birthday party at Vista View Apartments on
Renaissance Circle late Wednesday night.

It comes on the heels of the elementary school shooting in Uvalde,
Texas, killing 18 children and two teachers. More than 1,400 miles away
in Charleston, West Virginia, police report a person with an AR-15 style
rifle showed up at a party.

According to investigators, Dennis Butler was approached earlier about
speeding in the Vista View Apartment complex while children were
playing. Butler then left the complex. When he returned, he parked,
pulled out the rifle and opened fire.

Police said a woman who was lawfully carrying a pistol fatally shot Butler.

Butler is no stranger to law enforcement. Court documents reveal he has
been convicted of two felonies: child abuse and child neglect. Charges
such as those make it illegal for him to possess guns or ammunition.

"It's very hurtful because I know that person and I've been dealing with
him for years," Charleston councilmember Deanna McKinney, D-Ward 6,
said. "I was working with him, helping him get back into society and to
change from old patterns and behaviors."

McKinney has crusaded efforts to help curb gun violence in the city.

"These kids are growing up without understanding what guns are supposed
to be for and how to use them," McKinney said. "They're recklessly
picking up all these different types of guns and recklessly using them
against each other. It's really sad."

McKinney's efforts to curb gun crimes started after she lost her son,
who was shot and killed in April 2014.

"To lose my only son to gun violence definitely changed my life,"
McKinney said. "Every day since that, it's been my goal as a parent to
stop others from going through what I went through."

According to the Charleston Police Department, there have been four
homicides recorded in 2022. Inside council chambers, McKinney has called
on city officials to act and her latest effort was earlier this month.
She requested a sum of the city's $37 million in American Rescue Plan
funds to be set aside to help Charleston get a grip on gun violence.

"With the gun violence and crime going on in our city, we have not
gotten one dollar to address people dying, families losing loved ones
and kids losing friends," McKinney said. "Not one nickel has been
dedicated or even mentioned."

She wants the money to go towards a 24-hour crisis center. It is a place
where people could go if they are in need. Staff would work to catch
early signs of gun violence and help kids avoid the wrong path.

McKinney believes she has encountered too many roadblocks with the city
of Charleston and had turned her attention to the state by calling on
Gov. Jim Justice.

"I reached out to him to see if he can help me create such a place for
gun prevention," McKinney explained. "We need to have a team out there
to tackle the gun crime we are having in our city, in our streets and
our schools. We need to do something because children are crying for our
help."

McKinney is holding a community block party for Nation Gun Prevention
Day on June 3 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Central and Glen in Charleston's
West Side.

Eyewitness News reached out to Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin to discuss
plans for gun violence prevention in Charleston, but she was
unavailable. Eyewitness News also made calls to the Governor's Office
without a response.
